Yes, you absolutely can make a cake in the microwave and it doesn't taste that bad!
Two-Minute Chocolate Cake via Lucky Peach
serves 1 to 2
1 egg3 T milk
3 T neutral oil
3 T flour
4 T sugar
2 T cocoa powder
3 T semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 small splash vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
Add wet ingredients (including the egg) to a small or medium MicroSafe coffee mug and mix well. Add the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Add the chocolate chips and vanilla extract, mix again.
Put your mug in a 1000-watt microwave (I just assumed our microwave was 1000-watt.) for 2 minutes. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed. Allow to cool and, if desired, tip out onto a plate. (I tried this and it didn't look half as appetizing on the plate as it did in the mug.) Eat!

You just don't see enough microwave work on the cooking shows these days xoxo
ReplyDeleteHad to replay the "bye bye" segment a couple of times, it flashes by so fast!
ReplyDeleteteddy is so darn cute.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up my mum cooked everything from scratch in the microwave... lamb chops, quiche, bolognese sauce, stroganoff, bacon, eggs, risotto but never cake.... she'll love it when I show her this :)
ReplyDeleteor your me and you need a cake in two minutes cause you need chocolate cake now but can't leave the house or wait. this was awesome and now we can be that lady in the bank heist.
ReplyDeleteChef's Table...they're digging things. I have to say, I really hope to see some digging in the future here at Bon Appetempt. And lots of weeds and bark. :) Way to rock the microwave!
ReplyDeleteI came home from work, watched your video, and two minutes later I was eating chocolate cake. This Monday has been significantly improved. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYay! I love your videos. Could Teddy be any cuter? I'm all for chocolate cake, but I want a whole video of just Teddy nonsense. :)
ReplyDeleteI made one of these microwave cakes once and it was a disaster. The texture was similar to a dish sponge and it didn't taste far off from what I imagine a dish sponge would taste either. I'm excited to try it again with this recipe!
That cake doesn't look bad. Teddy is so big and so cute! Congrats on baby no. 2!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I want to make this so bad! But what about the frosting???
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! So happy for you. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for the cake, I will have to make it to be convinced. I'm so curious to try it!
question! I also have wood counter tops.. how do you protect yours?? We were considering poly... and we oil is pretty frequently. I'm just super paranoid about getting water on it.. which doesn't make cooking super fun.
ReplyDelete@Ariella Nudell Hi! Honestly, don't worry about it too much. They can take a beating and we really only oil them when I remember, probably once or twice a year. The only thing you should be careful of is your drying rack situation. We had one that was leaking water and by the time we realized it, the water had done some damage. But even then, we were able to oil it back to life.
